the international Peace day celebrations in Uganda was held in Mbarara on 25th sept 2015, Under the theme;"Partnership for peace-Diginity for all" Chief guest was Hon.Tarsis Kabwegera Minister of general duties in the office of the prime minister. On this day, CSOs report was red by Rev.Dr.Selevest Arinitwe the executive secretary UJCC.
In the report, Rev.Dr.Selevest appreciated the UN for having set aside such a day in regard to Peace. tremendous remarks were made to government for its tirelessness on issues of peace and security in Uganda and the great lakes region at large. he high lighted isses of gender based Violence,domestic Violence and un employment to the youth as key challenges to peace in our society today. CSOs customized the Peace day theme as,"UNITY IN DIVERSITY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT"
other organizations present included The UN,WFP, International Alart,CEWIGO,RWECO,Nile dialogue platform, Government was represented by all departments-presidents office,internal affairs, prime minister's office and security agencies especially the UPDF and Police. the key objectives for this year's international peace day was;
To raise awareness in the country about the
international peace week and the relevancy of commemorating it in Uganda.
To celebrate the road we are walking to achieve
the national peace policy.
To lobby and advocate for the violent free
campaigns and elections in 2016, andTo raise awareness of women and men in Uganda about the progress made in ensuring every citizen enjoys the right to peace.
The chief guest Hon.Tarsis Kabwegere made emphasis that every citizen is a key stakeholder in achieving peace at all levels. He commended and thanked President Museveni and the UN for the Peace and security contribution in Uganda and Africa at large.
