KALI in partnership with RWECO and HIVOS are jointly implementing a project on community actions to prevent and manage conflicts and human rights violations in Ruwenzori region. The project is funded by European Union. The overall project objective is to facilitate actions to ensure an increased and coordinated involvement of well-informed citizens to prevent and manage conflicts, monitor and take action to improve the human rights situations in the Rwenzori region of Uganda. This project is implemented in the Districts of; Kamwenge, Ntoroko, Bundibugyo and Kasese. KALI is specifically implementing this in Kamwenge District in the five sub counties of; Ntara, Nyabani, Kahunge, Busiriba & Nkoma.
In the sub counties mentioned, 10 CBOs (Youth & women groups) were mapped and each fronted one person (Foot Peace Ambassador-FPA) who was trained in key approaches to promote community actions on Conflict prevention and Human Rights Violations. In order to strengthen their capacity, reawakening training was held in Kamwenge at a central place.

This activity aimed at retooling the FPAs to train members of CBOs at their level in Basics on Human Rights and consensus building/Mediation as key in conflict prevention at community level.

Part of the training, Peace ambassadors shared milestones achieved since the project started 2016. In the sharing, they have successfully engaged on 28 Land related conflicts (10 in Kahunge, 12 in Busiriba, 03 in Ntara, 03 from Nkoma and Nyabani). Land issues are the highly rated source of conflict in Kamwenge both at household and community level. Other issues attended to were of Domestic Violence nature.
