STOP DIFILEMENT

Stop defilement:
For the month of September 2014 alone four defilement cases has been reported and handled in Munkunyu Sub County, where men are involved in rape and defilement of young girls between the ages of 3 to 17 years. This prompted parents and community members using Kinyamaseke Tukolerehaghuma Women Association (KITWA) Neighborhood Assembly (NA) to call upon all people, leaders the police and children to come together and come up with a lasting solution to this vice.
we are worried about what our future is going to be like because old people who are supposed to protect us and show us the way to a bright future are the ones who a merciless and violating our right to education and a healthy body....said Tumwine Sylvia a pupil of Kinyamaseke primary school.

It’s more surprising that most people who rape and defile us (girls) are our close relatives who hide in the mask of being a relative and having a harmless relationship but in the process force us into sex.... Jane Masika laments.

According to the Assistant Community development officer Munkunyu sub county Mrs. Kyakimwa Pesikezia, all cases reported to the leaders have been handled carefully to conclusion and advised parents local leaders and pupils to report to police whenever such cases are got in the community. However, most cases received in the sub county are mainly between close relatives (incest). This makes the work of police very complicated in that the two parties involved want to settle such cases at home which sometimes leaders to jeopardizing of police investigations and evidence to pin down the suspect.... commented Mrs. Pesikezia.
Drug addiction and too much alcoholism is the cause of this problem, we have a lot of idle youth who take drugs around Kinyamaseke primary school playground, and they are giving a bad example to school children and end up making sexual advances to the girls. Our leaders should work with the police to arrest and detain these people before it’s too late... commented Mr. Maziga Nathan a resident in the area.
The OC Munkunyu sub county police post commented that defilement case is a capital office, it cannot be handled outside court, I advise that whenever such is reported in the community let us know, if relatives handle this at home and we get to know even the parents shall be arrested. Currently, three defilers from this sub county are in Mubuku prison servicing their punishments, and we will keep sending there more people incase there’s no change of behavior and attitude....said Okongo G. Jeremiah.
